The Nonprofit Organizations Our Team is Passionate About - Marshall Financial Group

A few years ago, Marshall Financial Group formalized our mission, vision, and values in a document so that we could work intentionally and effectively for our clients. This Giving Tuesday, we wanted to highlight the ways in which we work towards two of the core values we outlined: We support each other collaboratively as a team in order to maintain a positive, meaningful work environment; and We support our community from a philanthropic perspective.

When we asked our team to share a sentence or two about an organization or cause that they are passionate about, we saw these values come to life. Not only are our staff members supporting their communities, our staff members are working together to support nonprofits and organizations they care about. Here are some of the organizations they care about:

Johns Hopkins Children’s Center – Chesapeake Bay Area Charities
This year, our financial advisors Anthony Pugliese, Brad Clough, and Andrew Hasz played in the Acapella Charity Golf Tournament. The funds raised go directly to the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, the pediatric hospital of Johns Hopkins Hospitals here in Baltimore. Every year, the hospital admits over 9,000 patients and conducts more than 92,000 patient visits. We have been sponsors and played in all 4 years of the annual tournament, making it an MFG tradition.

BARCs
One of Client Service and Operations Specialist Amy Sommers’s favorite organizations is BARCs, Maryland’s largest animal shelter and pet adoption center. They have a daily intake of 30 animals or more daily and are always in need of funding, volunteers, and donation of supplies. “They do amazing work for those who are in desperate need and cannot speak,” says Amy, who loves to spend time with her two dogs when she is not working.

CdLS Foundation
This fall, Director of Financial Planning and Senior Financial Advisor Sheryl Parks ran the 5K at the Baltimore Marathon in support of the CdLS Foundation. Sheryl has a great nephew with Conelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS), a very rare genetic condition present at birth that is characterized by numerous physical, intellectual, and behavioral differences. The Parks family participated as part of the CdLS Team in the Baltimore Running Festival. Because CdLS is a rare condition and funding is limited, the financial support of Marshall Financial Group will have a very positive impact.

There Goes My Hero
Marshall Financial Group has been a long-time supporter of There Goes My Hero. Founded in 2009 by our friend Erik Sauer, Hero seeks to save lives, provide hope, and help those impacted by blood cancer. In the past, we have hosted bone marrow registry drives to support Hero’s mission of adding life-saving donors to the registry and sponsored Hero events.

Young Life & Student Impact Leader for Mission 51
Holly Bergen’s family supports an organization called Young Life. Their mission is to introduce help young adolescents grow in their faith. Each week, a group of high school students gather in our home alongside their friends and Young Life leaders to explore and dig deeper into their faith. “As a mom of a high schooler myself, I am thankful our home offers a welcoming and safe space for students,” says Holly. “Giving back and serving are things we really value as a family,” she adds, and her 15-year-old is also a Student Impact Leader for Mission 51 at their church. She leads and organizes mission related projects that other high schoolers can participate in, and each week, alongside a group of her peers, she packs weekend food bags for ten students and their families from a local school. “Though she is leading this effort, we rally behind helping to purchase and shop for food with her.”

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Since 2008, Russ Armstrong has supported the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, who’s mission is to cure blood cancers and improve the quality of life for patients and their families. He has participated in Team in Training Events (including the San Diego Marathon and Marine Corps Marathon) and the Man/Woman of the Year Campaign, which is now called Visionary of the Year. “My team raised over $100,000 in 10 weeks to win the fundraising campaign in 2015 for the Mid-Atlantic chapter,” Russ says, and he went on to sit on the leadership board for MWOY the following year.

We are so proud of all of our team members and how they make a positive, meaningful contribution to our community.
